A Day at the Races is Queen’s fifth studio album, released on December 10, 1976, through EMI Records in the United Kingdom and by Elektra Records in the United States.
The album reached its highest peak of #16 during Week 108. The album's highest-charting songs include "Somebody To Love", which peaked at #35, and "Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy", which peaked at #47. The album debuted on the charts during Week 50 and peaked at #4 in Week 52 and retained the #2 position into Week 53. It was also featured as an Album of the Week during Week 124 shortly before a review of the album was released.
Throughout its chart run, A Day at the Races produced two Top 5 hits: Somebody To Love, which peaked at #2 during Week 52, spending 4 consecutive weeks at the position until Week 55, and Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy, which peaked at #4 during Week 52.
In October 2025, King Warz released a review of the album, giving it a score of 76 and praising its harmonies and standout tracks despite not surpassing its predecessor.
Album Review
| “ | There is no doubt in my mind that A Day of the Races is a follow up or sister album to A Day at the Races. Before listening to the album in full i was always a fan of Somebody to Love and Good old fashioned lover boy. But to be honest this album has not caught my attention as much as A Night at the Opera did. I honestly wanted this album to more experimental but it unfortunately came off as a less enticing version of A Night at the Opera. But other than Somebody to Love and Good Old Fashioned Love Boy I really enjoyed Tie Your Mother Down, You Take My Breath Away, White Man and Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together). For You Take My Breath away i really enjoyed the harmonies in this primarily because im a big fan of Love of my Life (1975) and the sound of those harmonies are to die for. For White Man i see some similarities in the structure of this song and The Prophet Song (1975), which i like. With Teo Torriatte i get to experience another operatic sensation similar to Bohemian Rhapsody. To end, i know that this project will probably never outdo A Night At the opera for me but theres some lovely songs on it so its likely that as I continue to delve deeper into their disccography this album will remain in the top 5. | ” |

Track-by-Track Review
| Track | Score (0–10) | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Tie Your Mother Down | 7 | Tie your mother down is kinda vibey. |
| You Take My Breath Away | 7.5 | The intro for this one is really good love when they do the harmonies. Gives me a slight Love of my Life vibes. That part in the song where it gets quiet and then gets louder every other second is nice. Lead by Freddie. |
| Long Away | 6 | Love the harmonies but I did not find it enticing on first listen. |
| The Millionaire Waltz | 6 | Did not entice on first listen. |
| You and I | 6 | Did not entice on first listen. |
| Somebody to Love | 10 | Always Loved it and will continue to love forever. I related to it very much. |
| White Man | 8 | Honestly reminds me of the Prophet Song but I like the chorus. |
| Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy | 10 | Been one of my favorite Queen song for like 2 years. Masterpiece. |
| Drowse | 6.5 | Love hearing Roger on lead but this song did not entice me. |
| Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together) | 8.1 | Love the operatic singing in the intro (gives love of my life vibes). The lyric "when I'm gone" hits different knowing Freddie isnt here :( |
