A song is designated as a variant if it meets one or more of the following conditions:
- It is a remix, live performance, or alternate version of an already charting song.
- It is included on a different album, EP, or special project, separate from the main release.
Chart Performance and Variants
Variants function under a shared chart history with their main version but have specific rules governing their impact on the rankings:
- If a variant achieves more streams than the original version in a given week, then the variant receives credit for that week’s chart position.
- Variants and their main version share the same peak position, meaning if the variant reaches a new peak, the original version is automatically credited with the same peak.
- Despite sharing a peak, certifications are independent, meaning a variant can receive a different certification from the original version based on its own total streams.
For example, if the original version of "Breathin" by Ariana Grande peaks at #1, and later the live version (breathin - live) also reaches #1, both versions will officially share the #1 peak in chart history. However, if the live version gains more streams in a particular week, it will be the version that receives credit for that week.
